October is here and it feels like autumn has arrived with it!

The cooler temperatures have set off the changing colours of the autumn season and the garden is already showing the signs. Many of the Japanese maples are beginning their transition and some are already showing off some beautiful colours – the Acer palmatum Aureum is looking half green, part yellow and part red at the moment!

It will be a few weeks yet before we reach the peak of the colour for the maples but they do turn at different times making the whole month of October a beautiful time to visit to see colour.

We have found that year after year the autumn colour has been peaking later and later – so this year we have decided to stay open an extra couple of weeks (past our usual closing date) until November 15th 2022 – to make sure everyone has the opportunity to see the colour before we close for winter.

Often the best time to visit is the end of October for the best display of colour, but there has been the odd year that the best show has saved itself until just after we closed! So we are trying it out this year – staying open until the middle of November.

Today I took a walk around the garden and was very effected by the gardens aura of peace. The sunlight was pouring in through the leaves and the air was crisp and cool.

I have been so busy recently with my children, running the business and planning an event that I hadn’t realised how stressed I was until I walked into the garden and felt that stress melt away.

The autumn is always a messy time of year – with leaves falling with every breeze – but the garden looked so tidy, it made me so proud of our gardeners to see how magnificently they have looked after the space.

It really is a labour of love but the feeling in the garden is truly worth all the hard work.

After walking the garden for just under an hour I felt lighter and filled with a sense of calm that ive been lacking of late.

Hope anyone who manages a visit over the next few weeks has a wonderful experience.
