This Week In The Garden

Almost 3 weeks in to March and the garden is waking up for Spring beautifully.

The weather has been so varied since we opened at the beginning of the month – somedays pouring with rain and others glorious sunshine and sometimes a mixture of the two!

The garden has been well saturated with water with so much rainfall over winter and one area is still flooded even now (near the small waterfall at the bottom of the koi pond).

Its surreal to think we are so close to Easter already but as its so early this year its no surprise that its felt like its come so quick.

We are open 7 days a week including easter weekend with our normal opening hours (10am until 6pm – last garden entry at 5pm daily).

My walk around the garden today came this morning when the sky was overcast and later today the su shine came out with radiant heat so everything has opened that little bit more today since the pictures below.

Its a wonderful time to visit the garden as you can see so much of the architecture of the trees before they fully leaf up.

There are also so many flowers already out this year with camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas already displaying their colourful blooms.

The majority of the Japanese maples have not yet fully unfurled their leaves for the season but many are beginning to and some are already in leaf.

The show stopper today for me was the large leaf rhododendron by the pond which has huge, impressive, cream blossoms. So elegant and beautiful I look forward to them every year. There are still many buds not yet open but the ones that are just take my breath away.
